Cosplay Photoshoot - Sailor Venus by mistercomb (IG) 1.1.19

Author: Luke Cheng

Katie asked if I had time to shoot her Sailor Venus cosplay... and of course I did! We went out on a beautiful weekday afternoon on the very first of the year to grab some photos of her cosplay. It was a great way to start off the new year! Her Sailor Venus cosplay was perfectly on-point and we were off and shooting around downtown Davis.

Being winter, we got some very nice lighting. It usually doesn't start getting nice until later in the afternoon like 5 or 6 in the summer, but at this time of year, 3 was perfect. The sun wasn't harsh for good photographs and I was able to take a few shots with the sun providing a strong backlight.

My main camera for this shoot wasn't my trusty Sony cameras... this time I wanted to give my relatively new Fuji X-T3 a go. I really want to shoot with the Fuji more since I went a bit nuts and bought a bunch of lenses for it. This camera definitely slowed me down a bit as I wasn't used to it as much as the Sonys.

We stopped at a few different locations around Davis. The good thing about Davis is that there are all these places around that have unique artwork and structures that make good points of interest for photographs. This mural with a sun painted on it was a fun place for me to shoot. I thought it went well with the Sailor Venus theme.

And as always, I try to get some photos that have a little bit of a different look and feel to them. It's always fun to get different looks and angles whenever possible to mix up the set of photos a bit. You don't want everything looking the same!

I had a great time on this shoot, thanks to Katie for being such an awesome cosplayer. Please follower her on Instagram. Her username there is @mistercomb.
